History of Tehri
Tehri town situated at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Ganga river which is now merged with Tehri Dam was established in 1815 by Raja Sudarshan Shah of Garhwal as the capital of Tehri State.
When the country became independent, on August 1, 1949, Tehri Garhwal was formed as a separate district, this district was earlier called Tehri princely state.
After cutting it out in 1960, Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag were made two separate districts in 1947. Old Tehri is located at an altitude of 770 meters above sea level, while it is located at a distance of 84 km from Rishikesh.
Yamunotri Gangotri This is an important place on the way to Kedarnath and Badrinath. After the construction of Tehri Dam, the government here as an alternative to Tehri, 24 km away from Old Tehri, in the south direction, New Tehri at a distance of 60 km from Rishikesh. Founded a new town named and rehabilitated the people
Some of these people also settled in Haridwar and Dehradun. The headquarters of Tehri district remained Narendra Nagar for a few years, but after the construction of New Tehri, all the offices were shifted to New Tehri. The construction work of new Tehri was done in a planned manner.
And presently New Tehri is now developing as a tourist destination.

Devprayag

Devprayag is situated at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Alaknanda river. The height of Devprayag is 472 meters above sea level, which is situated on Rishikesh Badrinath road.
There are two swinging bridges near this city, one bridge is on the Bhagirathi river and the other is on the river Alaknanda. It is said that Lord Vishnu had asked King Bali to donate 3 steps of land at this place.
There are 2 kunds here which are called Brahma Kund and Vashisht Kund. Brahma Kund is situated towards Bhagirathi river and Vashisht Kund is situated towards Alaknanda river. Devprayag has the highest religious importance in Panch Prayag. Here one surprising thing is that crows in this area. never appear
It is said that after Lord Rama killed Ravana, Lord Rama visited this place.
The Raghunath temple here is presently a witness to this incident which is situated here.
This temple, built in Dravidian style, was replaced by Guru Shankaracharya. At the entrance of the temple, Madho Singh Bhandari's daughter-in-law Mathura Vairani has an inscription from the reign of Prithvishah, the overlord of the Garhwal state dynasty.
It is said that during the time of Satyuga, a sage named Dev Sharma had meditated at this place, due to which the place was named Devprayag.
Pind Daan has special significance at the confluence of Devprayag, all the devotees who come here must donate their bodies to their ancestors.

Maa Chandrabadni Temple This temple is located on the Tehri to Srinagar motor road after covering a distance of 8 km from a place called Kandikhal. The famous Siddha Peeth temple of Maa Chandrabadni is situated on the Chandrakoot mountain.
Shri Yantra is naturally installed in this temple. Chandrabadni temple is one of the sacred and religious places of Mata Sati. This temple is situated at a distance of 33 kms from Devprayag. This temple was established by Guru Shankaracharya.
Goddess Bhagwat Purana and Mahabharata describe the Siddhapeeth of the mother in detail. In ancient religious texts, there is a mention of Chandrabadni temple by the name of Bhuneshwari Siddha Peeth. The idol of Maa Chandrabadni is not installed in this temple, but a Shree Yantra is installed naturally here.
From this temple, the view of the peaks of Surkanda Kedarnath and Badrinath mountain is visible, due to which this place is very attractive and scenic.
A Shri Yantra is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of this temple. A huge silver umbrella is placed over the Shri Yantra, although every year devotees come here from far and wide to see the mother, but especially during the Navratras, the mother is worshiped here.

Chamba is situated at an altitude of 1675 meter above sea level. Chamba city offers a panoramic view of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks and the sacred Bhagirathi valley.
Rishikesh has established itself as a focal point due to the location of Chamba at the confluence of the main routes coming from Mussoorie and New Tehri. Chamba is also known for its delicious apples.
Chamba Hill Station is also known for apricot orchards and apples. Tehri Dam is known as a major destination for tourists coming to Surkanda Devi Temple and Rishikesh.
